We often hear the terms restoration, remodeling, and renovation used interchangeably when each term actually refers to completely unique processes.
That’s why we decided to take a few minutes and clarify what each of these terms mean.
Restoration
It’s right there in our company name: Lake City Restoration, and we’re the experts! While remodeling and renovation can often include restoration services, the average homeowner needs restoration services after property damage has occurred.
For example, if a windstorm has damaged your roof, broken windows, or even caused a tree to fall on your house, restoration services are necessary.
The focus is on restoring your home to its previously safe condition and is often covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy.
Restoration services include repairing your home after a fire to remove smoke damage and restore your home to a safe space once again.
Water damage from basement floods or burst pipes or weather needs to be addressed by restoration experts.
Many services can fall under the umbrella of restoration, so if you’re not sure what your home needs, give us a call and chat with one of our experts!
Remodeling
A remodeling project is usually expansive and can include a variety of professionals to complete. For example, remodeling your kitchen will likely include complex construction design and work, plumbing, electrical, and often a permit is needed.
Remodeling is often seen as an update to your home and involves changing an entire room or building’s structure. Designers, contractors, and architects typically need to be involved in large-scale remodeling projects.
Renovation
When you’re talking about renovating a room or area of your home, it typically means to clean, repair, or rebuild. You’re fixing something that is already present, which can make it seem similar to restoration.
The original design of your home or room isn’t altered drastically but rather updated and renewed to meet a new standard.
For example, renovating a bathroom may include installing a new bathtub that was larger than the original because your home was built in the 1920s.
Renovations can also include repainting a room, installing new light fixtures, and other value-adding features like upgrading kitchen countertops and cabinet hardware.
We’re Always Here To Help
Sometimes a home repair project can include aspects of all three of these terms and Lake City Restoration is here to help make it easy for you.
Our services include water damage cleanup, storm damage repair, and other necessary restoration services year-round.
If you have questions about how to keep your home safe or are concerned it may have been damaged and needs to be restored, give us a call!
